What Is the Correct Response to Violence?

VERSE

Jesus told them, Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.

Matthew 24: 4-6; 13-14 NLT

What is the correct response to violence? In an increasingly violent culture, this is a question we must all ask ourselves. Everyone is looking to blame someone or something for the violence. Who do we blame? Are guns, assault weapons, bombs, or 20 ton trucks to blame? Or should the blame be placed on police, terrorists, or mental Illness? Others point the finger at Muslims, racists, criminals, white pride, and black power. While some blame anger, fear, retaliation, racial bias, and vengeance. The possibilities are endless on who or what is said to be to blame for the violence that plagues our world.

What is the core of the problem? Injustice, corruption, lies, systemic racism, greed, and pride to name a few. Or could it be unfettered police authority, Republicans, Democrats, conservatives, progressives, Libertarians, LGBTQ, or millennials?

When is murder, police shooting, and police ambushing justifiable or criminal? Do black lives matter to police, abortion advocates or other Blacks?

The only ANSWER is a changed heart given to the Lord Jesus Christ. The unregenerate, unsaved human being is given to sin and the father of lies. The only HOPE is God’s intervention through revival, awakening, a great harvest, and the outpouring of God’s spirit upon the church and the sending of God’s anointed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

The only RESPONSE must be the cry of Christians in repentance, intercession, and extraordinary prayer. The only REQUIREMENT is agreement, oneness, unity, through racial healing and reconciliation, humility, brokenness, contrition, purity and consecration. These are the only answers, hope, responses and requirements to properly address violence in our nation.

PRAYER

Lord, when the injustices of this world begin to feel like too much for us to handle, help us to remember that you healed people simply by touching them and give us faith in our ability to comfort and heal bodies, minds and spirits that have been affected by violence.
